Nikkita Reviews: What Are Friend's For? by Sarah Sutton

The second I picked up this book, I couldn't put it down. It took me a little under 72 hours to read and it was a whirlwind of an adventure full of heart and soul. Sarah Sutton told a tale as old as time, an absolute delight from start to finish. The story follows a senior in high school named Remi and the trials and tribulations of schoolwork, friendships, parental relationships, and, of course, falling in love with her best friend.⁣

I fell in love with the relationships in the story and often found myself relating to Remi and even feeling like I was in her shoes for most of the book. It took me back to a different time, a time where boyfriends and schoolwork were my biggest worry in the world. I felt like a teenager again in the best sense: excited, nervous, invigorated, and hopeful. Watching Remi mature through her actions and the events throughout the story was the most satisfying of all; seeing her relationship with her parents strengthen over time while she dealt with self-awareness and her own rollercoaster of feelings was the perfect representation of successful character development. The symbolism of snowflakes and what they mean to the character on a spiritual and emotional level was a beautiful revelation that will stick with me forever.⁣

What Are Friends For? is a sensational read, the epitome and perfect example of YA contemporary romance. It's one that I'm proud to keep on my shelf and revisit it time and time again.⁣
